International ILEM Summer School in Turkey 2023- The International ILEM Summer School in Turkey 2023 is intended to address the most pressing challenges affecting the Islamic world. To achieve this goal, the ILEM platform intends to bring together researchers, academics, and artists from around the world. People from all walks of life are urged to apply for this internationally recognised summer school. Rethinking art and aesthetics in the Islamic World through conceptual, theoretical, and practical methods in a socio-political paradigm will be the focus of the ILEM summer school. Within the intellectual and creative realm, the summer school will visualise Islamic art in relation to tradition or spiritual experiences.
The IISM 2023 seeks to provide light on what is beyond preconceived and conditional forms of creative expression. The ability to create aesthetic formulae in middle age is assessed using two extreme poles: cultural schizophrenia and acculturation. Respecting cultural diversity will help to build an aesthetic bridge between the distant past and the future. You will become aware of the relationship between aesthetic ideals and perception of beauty, which has been passed down through the past and is today represented in a variety of arts. The conceptual content analyses several subjects such as innovation, tradition, classical, and perennial knowledge. Thus, a metaphysical background enriches theoretical interpretations of Islamic aesthetics.
The fully sponsored summer school programme will study the most recent ideas on Islamic arts in terms of its origin and content as part of the theoretical debates. Furthermore, Islamic theories will be examined in relation to contemporary issues, such as digitalization and the possibility of combining traditional values and contemporary elucidation of arts in accordance with aesthetic principles. Furthermore, the socio-political implications explain how Islamic aesthetics are viewed through the lens of social life. It will also examine Islamic arts in relation to significant themes such as propaganda, cultural diplomacy, enculturation, environmental issues, and many more.
The following subjects will be covered during the international summer school in 2023: Islamic aesthetics’ theoretical framework, mystical interpretation and Qur’anic roots of Islamic Arts, perception of beauty, truth, and goodness in Islamic aesthetics, sacred symbolism and geometry in Islamic art, critical re-thinking of Ilm-al-Jamal and Ihsan in Islamic art, Islamic aesthetics from Western perspectives, methodology in Islamic Arts The role of art in information transmission, the purpose of Islamic arts Islamization of art in the postcolonial world, innovation and conservatism, Islamic arts in the digital world, art in daily life, beauty and pleasure in the consumer world, Islamic art and society, cultural and environmental awareness, Islam and the Clash of Civilizations, art as cultural diplomacy and political legitimacy, aesthetic propaganda around the world, and cultural appropriation.
