Internship Opportunity

In Summer 2023, USofCare is looking for an intern to join our Policy Innovation Lab team. This semester, we will hire one intern. Summer internships are full-time, 40-hour-per-week positions.

Interns provide assistance to all divisions within United States of Caring, including programme teams, operations, and development. This internship will focus on our Policy Innovation efforts in particular. Policy research and writing for blogs, memoranda, and Playbooks are examples of potential projects. When interns are part of the United States of Care team, they are encouraged to attend local/virtual health care and networking events and to bring their experiences back to discuss with the team.

Policy Innovation Overview

The Policy Innovation work of United States of Care focuses on elevating long-standing problems that people have with the health care system and identifying data-driven, evidence-based policy solutions to address these structural and systemic issues in order to build a better health care system in the long run. Our work begins with individuals, listening and learning what is and is not working in their health care and what they would like their health care system to be. We then bring together broad sets of stakeholders—from individuals to lawmakers to business leaders—to develop on solutions to people’s health care needs. We combine what we learn from individuals with what the research evidence and experts say in order to see:

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Contribute to the United States of Care team’s research, planning, and operations;
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and synthesise information and research in a succinct way;
  • Get up to date on current health-care policy.

Policy Innovation Focus

  • In partnership with the Policy Innovation team, contribute to important policy research and writing for reports, resources, blog posts, op-eds, and other external communications materials.
  • Evaluate and track health care policy in relation to the people-centered goals of the United States of Caring;
  • Emphasize the values of diversity, equality, and inclusion, including using the organization’s equity lens to influence all activity.
  • Work with the Community Engagement and Research team, including the Research and Public Engagement intern, to support the formulation and implementation of people-centered policies at United States of Care.
  • As needed, assist members of the Policy Innovation team.
  • Additional responsibilities as allocated by the Policy Innovation team
  • Projects could include:
  • Helping with research and product development for the people-centered goals of United States of Caring, which may include:
  • Policies to increase access to maternal and child health care

Qualifications

  • Must be committed to ensuring that everyone has access to high-quality, affordable health care and be willing to work in a bipartisan environment to find different policy solutions to that end.
  • Currently enrolled in a master’s degree or transitioning between academic programmes, preferably with a concentration in Public Health, Public Policy, Health Care, Communications, Business, Nonprofit Management, Economics, Leadership, Social Sciences, or another relevant programme;
  • Flexible and excited about working in a startup atmosphere, prepared to take on a variety of duties to help a developing team;
  • Dedication to addressing and comprehending health disparities in marginalised populations, as well as the consequences for access to high-quality, low-cost health care;

Commitment

Summer internships are full-time positions that demand 40 hours per week. All internships at United States of Caring are three months long and completely remote. You must furnish your own computer and have consistent internet connectivity.
